You’ll notice that this Confidential 2017 Margaret River Shiraz is a little different. No, we’re not talking about the impressive 95-point score from legendary David Bicknell, or the 41% saving off RRP (although those are pretty interesting, too).
This red, from a Jimmy Watson-winning winery, was tipped as an export and labelled as such before the order was cancelled at the last minute. That’s why we can double down on value. Their loss, your gain.

The origin story of this Confidential is intriguing, and the wine inside even moreso. David Bicknell calls it ‘thoughtfully made’ (he’d know). There’s some whole bunch in there, and some sun-dried stems, all wild fermented. It’s elegant, it’s got structure, and it’s all spice, red fruit, and a lick of aniseed. It’s got a gorgeous medium body (perfect for your autumn table), and will evolve nicely with some ageing.
Buy it in sixes or, better yet, enjoy it by the dozen so you have some to enjoy later. It’s not what you’d expect, and that’s part of its charm.
